A post-election financial system inquiry? Bring it on, says RBA

05 July 2013 4:23PM
A full-scale financial system review would be a useful exercise, Reserve Bank deputy governor Philip Lowe said yesterday."Our arrangements have worked better than those in many other countries but that does not mean we can't look for better ways to do things," Lowe said, in response to a question at the Global Financial Stability Conference in Sydney."In principle, we should look at the structure of our system. It is a very important area."However, he said, the current challenge was to implement Basel III and other reforms. "Basel III was agreed quickly. Now it has to be implemented. As we do that we need to watch for side effects."We have had enough reform for a while."
