ABN Amro boosts its local presence
Dutch bank ABN Amro has upgraded its presence in Australia with the opening of a Sydney branch last week, after the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority granted ABN Amro NV authority to carry on banking business in Australia last October.The bank has operated a securities services business in Australia, ABN Amro Clearing, for 20 years and operated a representative office.Peter Davis is country executive for the Australian operations. Davis was chief executive of ANZ Japan from 2012 to 2016. He worked at ANZ for 14 years all up, Credit Lyonnais for nine years and Deutsche Bank for six.His product experience includes structured and asset finance, project finance and trade finance.ABN Amro's other Asia Pacific operations are in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo.ABN Amro Asia Pacific chief executive Jaap Kalverkamp said in a statement: "Australia has many internationally active home-grown companies in the sectors we cover. We are looking to share expertise and experience as a sector bank to support Australian and other Asia Pacific companies."
