Afterpay links with Jetstar to finance airfares

14 September 2017 4:41PM
ASX-listed retail payments platform Afterpay has announced an airline ticket purchase financing deal in conjunction with cut-price airline Jetstar that will enable Jetstar customers booking domestic flights online to pay in four equal fortnightly instalments. The Afterpay funding service will cover transactions between A$200 and A$1,000 that are booked eight weeks or more in advance of travel. A service fee of $10 per transaction will be imposed.  "The $10 flat fee is the only payment fee Jetstar customers will pay to purchase the fare. If Jetstar customers choose other options for their flight they will pay for those like any other customer would," Jetstar said. Afterpay pays Jetstar upfront and the customer pays Afterpay over time in four equal instalments.  "The customer links their Afterpay account to either a debit or credit card," the firm said. "It's also important to note that over 85 per cent of Afterpay transactions are via a debit card." Afterpay and Jetstar are considering extending the payment service to international flights.
