Amex may close Sydney call centre
American Express may move the call centre that supports its Japanese card business from Sydney to Japan by the end of the year, the firm announced yesterday. The plan is "subject to local consultations or feasibility studies", according to an announcement released in the US.Local management told ZDNet that the feasibility study will consider the merit of closing one of two other services centres in Sydney that cater to clients in Australia and New Zealand. The decision has been driven by lower call volumes as customers handle routine matters online. In the case of the Japanese language call centre in Sydney, the difficulty in sourcing staff also influenced the move.
