ANZ and CBA make senior appointments

Two of the big banks announced changes in their senior ranks yesterday, with ANZ moving the New Zealand chief executive Graham Hodges back to Australia to become deputy CEO for the bank and Commonwealth Bank appointing Ian Saines as group executive institutional banking and markets.

The Hodges appointment at ANZ follows a decision by deputy CEO Bob Edgar to retire, ending a 25-year career with the bank.

Jenny Fagg, Hodges' deputy in New Zealand, will move into the top job there.

Saines, who had gigs at Zurich and BT before moving to Commonwealth in 2004, is jumping into a hot spot at the bank. CBA's premium business services division has been an under-achiever in recent years.
