ANZ appoints retirement bankers

ANZ will put what it is calling retirement bankers into all of its branches next year, the bank said yesterday.

ANZ managing director retail distribution, Louis Hawke, said in a statement that retirement is not the simple process of stopping work that it used to be. People transition to retirement by working part time, starting small businesses and so on.

Hawke said the bank had a role, beyond giving advice about superannuation, helping people structure their finances and their banking appropriately.

He said the bank's research showed that people wanted to be able to discuss their retirement finances with a banker.
