ANZ coughs up meal allowances
ANZ has lost its argument with Finsec, the Finance Sector Union, which challenged the bank's move to not pay meal money to staff working overtime at its call centre in New Zealand handling calls from the Australian bank. The bank has now agreed to make payments of meal money to staff working more than 8.5 hours a day. It will also pay them back-pay for the last 18 months.Initially, ANZ said it didn't have to pay meal money because people "volunteered" to work overtime and were not required by the bank to do so. This was in contrast to other ANZ National contact centres where staff were entitled to receive meal money when they worked overtime.
