ANZ hires RBS China chief
Charles Li, the long-serving chief executive in China for Royal Bank of Scotland, will take over as CEO in China for ANZ, the bank announced yesterday.ANZ's previous China chief executive, Christine Ip, quit and moved to Singapore earlier this month, Reuters reported last week.Li has managed the China business for the bank then known as NatWest since 1998. NatWest later merged with RBS.RBS late last year reached terms to sell its China business to DBS Group of Singapore. The transfer of business to DBS is not likely to occur until the middle of this year.ANZ had negotiated to buy the RBS business in China along with half a dozen other RBS business units in Asia that ANZ did buy in 2009 and 2010, but in the end ANZ and RBS could not reach terms.
