ANZ pitches card at cashed up travel market
ANZ has launched a feature packed credit card, aimed at well-heeled and keen travellers, in conjunction with Visa and American Express. The unambiguously named ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card promises to give each holder one complimentary Virgin Australia domestic return flight and two Virgin Australia Lounge passes each year, along with free overseas travel and medical insurance, 55 days interest free purchases and no fees on purchases made overseas. An ANZ spokesman said QBE is the provider of the overseas travel and medical insurance component, and this cover extends to accompanying spouse or partner, and dependent children. He also pointed out that the complimentary domestic flight offer includes many of Virgin's longer routes, such as Melbourne to Perth and Sydney to Darwin - provided the booking is made 60 days in advance. It all comes at a cost: customers need to spend $500 in the first three months of holding the card to activate these benefits, which will then be offered every year with an annual fee of $225.
