ANZ shifts more work to India
The Age reported on plans by ANZ to cut, or redeploy from Australia to India, 620 jobs between next month and September 2009.The newspaper reported that ANZ identified 870 positions for "offshore migration" by both the bank and external consultants, with a recommendation that 620 jobs should go to meet an ANZ board target. The cuts would be on top of the about 800 middle-management jobs axed this month. There have been rumours for two months or more, but little detail, of deeper cuts discussed at ANZ. ANZ operates its own technology centre in India in Bangalore and makes less use than other banks of external suppliers, so in ANZ's case the "offshoring" of work remains in-house.
