Arbib made assistant treasurer
Mark Arbib will be appointed assistant treasurer, meaning the minority Labor government now has three ministers serving the Treasury portfolio.Arbib, a senator for New South Wales, will continue as sports minister. He formerly served as secretary of the Labor Party in NSW.It is not clear what Arbib's duties will be as assistant treasurer.Bill Shorten will remain as Minister for Financial Services but will lose the additional title of assistant treasurer. He will continue to oversee policy reform relating to superannuation and financial planning. Shorten will also join the Cabinet as Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.Wayne Swan remains Treasurer and David Bradbury remains parliamentary secretary.
