Aussie credit card a joint venture and not a co-brand
Aussie Group managing director John Symond said yesterday that the company's credit card issued in conjunction with ANZ Bank was a true joint venture with the bank, and not simply a co-branded card, such as Virgin Money's arrangement Westpac.Aussie began undertaking public relations for the Aussie MasterCard yesterday and ANZ is now processing applications for the credit card. A paid media campaign will begin on Sunday.Symond said Aussie was involved with card processing and credit risk management with ANZ, as well as with marketing the card. Aussie hasn't disclosed any of the details of the joint venture, such as how ANZ and Aussie will share costs, risks and profits. Symond said Aussie would spend between $5 million and $6 million on marketing the card.Aussie's dedicated website for the credit card says that Aussie Credit Cards are provided under agreement by ANZ. ANZ is the credit provider and the Aussie site says applications are subject to ANZ's standard approval criteria. The Aussie credit card is pretty cheap as far as the headline interest rate goes, with a rate of 9.99 per cent; a balance transfer rate of 3.99 per cent for six months (from the time of approval, not the time of the transfer) and up to 55 days interest free. With a headline interest rate a shade less than 10 per cent, the Aussie credit card is in the cheapest half a dozen credit cards, though the low rate is partly offset by the annual fee and various processing fees.
