Aussie Post switches direction on payment gateways

Australia Post is putting to the sword one of its clutch of payments gateways. DirectOne will cease processing transactions in mid-November.

In its place Post is promoting a revamped payment solution called Direct Post.

Both Direct Post and DirectOne are products of SecurePay, Post's gateway to this form of business in 2010.

Australia Post paid A$48 million to buy SecurePay, then the largest independent payment gateway business.

Securepay bought DirectOne in 2003, a step toward turning a key enabled, but still at the time a bit of a cottage industry, into a credible supplier.

Over the five years under Post's wing SecurePay rated scant mention in Post's annual reporting, a possible indicator of an underwhelming story.

SecurePay has consumed some worry time at Post, with recent and repeat failures to deliver critical services to clients being one reason.
