Australian banks ex-Asia
A weekly snapshot of the Asian corporate loan market (ex-Japan, as is commonly reported) might as well be rebranded as ex-Australia.Australian names are not common in Asian loan rankings as arrangers, with ANZ now in retreat and Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank and Westpac all lacking any regional capital markets story to sell.Asian banks by and large run this show. Last week Bank of Taiwan led the field, followed by Chang Hwa Commercial Bank, CTBC Bank Co, First Commercial Bank and Taishin Financial.Big name arrangers were quiet last week in the Asian loan market, Corporate Treasurer reports.Five top Chinese names stride the CT rankings, accounting for more than 30 per cent of a US$182 billion loan market over the year to date, small beer really.
