Australian banks slipped a notch or two in one consultancy's rankings of the world's most valuable banks.

WPP and Millward Brown, in their 2015 "Brandz Top 10" list, put Commonwealth Bank in sixth spot with a brand value of US$21 billion (A$27 billion), down from the fifth spot the bank held last year.

ANZ also dropped a notch from seventh spot to eighth spot with a brand value of US$18 billion (A$23 billion).

US major Wells Fargo retained top spot as Brandz most valuable regional bank with a brand value of US$59 billion, followed by China's ICBC and Canada's RBC. Keeping the regional pattern consistent, China Construction Bank and TD rounded out the top five.
