Australian credit scorecard falls
Veda has released its annual consumer credit scorecard, showing the average consumer credit score has had a small drop from 771 last year (the maximum score is 1200) to 757 in the latest survey.Veda general manager consumer Izzy Silva, said the proportion of people who accessed their credit score rose from 11 per cent last year to 23 per cent in the latest survey.These figures indicate that awareness of credit scoring is growing - but they do not support the view that gaining access to credit scores prompts consumers to improve them.Veda's consumer research shows that the proportion of people who spent money on things they would struggle to pay for increased from 24 per cent last year to 26 per cent in the latest survey.An average score of 757 is in Veda's "very good" band (8300 to 1200 is "excellent").Baby boomers had an average score of 805, Gen X 759 and Millennials 712.Women score higher than men - 768 compared with 749.
