Westpac on Friday confirmed the hiring of Thomas Boyles to a newly created role of chief customer officer.

An experienced banker, Boyles joins Westpac from the Walt Disney Company, where he is a senior vice president charged with looking after customer relationships at Disney's parks and resorts.

According to Westpac, in his current role, Boyles "is responsible for Disney's 'customer first' strategy, which has used innovative technology to create personalised customer experiences and significantly increase trust in the Disney brand."

Prior to joining Disney in 2000, Boyles was a vice president at National City Bank, responsible for strategy and marketing. Prior to this, Boyles was president of Integra Direct, responsible for internet banking, the ATM network and marketing.

The bank said Boyles will look after "building customer loyalty in both the physical and digital worlds."

He will be responsible for marketing, customer relationship management and digital strategy across the bank's suite of brands.

Boyles will report to Westpac's chief executive for the consumer bank George Frazis, and commence in August.
