Banks sign on for Good Shepherd inclusion project
Six financial institutions, including the four big banks, are among the participants in a new financial inclusion project being organised by Good Shepherd Microfinance.The Financial Inclusion Action Plan is focused on women and has been designed to provide a co-ordinated approach to improving financial resilience for people experiencing hardship.Good Shepherd is working with several partner organisations, including Ernst & Young, the Centre for Social Impact and the Department of Social Services.An advisory group will be chaired by Delia Rickard, the deputy chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.Participating financial institutions, which include Bank Australia and Suncorp Group along with the big banks, have agreed to provide wider access to their products and services through the program.Good Shepherd Microfinance chief executive Adam Mooney said in a statement that the program's focus on women was aimed at improving gender equity and safer outcomes for women and their children.Other participants are Anglicare SA, BaptistCare, Energy Australia, Queensland Sate Government and Swinburne University.
