BankWest opts for Beijing branding 01 May 2008 4:38PM John Kavanagh The green and gold of the Australian Olympic uniforms took on a tinge of orange yesterday when BankWest emerged as an Olympic team partner. The bank is not disclosing its financial commitment to the cause but the partnership will extend beyond Beijing to take in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. It is notoriously difficult to measure the effectiveness of sports sponsorship - especially so in the case of the Olympics because the IOC is so strict about the use of sponsors' signage at events. But BankWest retail chief executive Ian Corfield said he was very confident that the bank would get value from the deal.New BankWest ads to be launched soon will integrate the Olympic partnership as a theme and the boxing kangaroo will feature."The Australian team punches above its weight at the Olympics and we want to be associated with that," said Corfield."We are about bringing competition to the market."
