Big jump in mortgage inquiries
Mortgage inquiries rose 15.3 per cent in 2013, according to Veda's latest consumer credit demand index.Borrowers in New South Wales led the charge, with a 22.2 per cent increase in mortgage inquires. All states except South Australia recorded increases.Veda's index is a measure of the volume of credit inquiries put through the Veda consumer credit bureau by credit providers.Veda said there was a shift to mortgage applications from older people, reflecting the withdrawal of first-home buyers from the market.While mortgage inquiries are up, personal loan inquiries fell 1.4 per cent last year, and credit card inquiries rose by 2.4 per cent.
