BPS Technology buys Entertainment Publications
BPS Technology, the operator of the Bartercard system, has acquired Entertainment Publications Australia and New Zealand, a sales channel for the hospitality and tourism industry.BPS launched a A$27.5 million institutional placement to fund the acquisition, which it described as "transformative".BPS's core business is Bartercard, a barter trading system whose member businesses trade goods and services with each other using a digital currency called a Trade Dollar. It has been in business for more than 20 years.Bartercard is used by 24,000 small and medium businesses and has annual transaction value of around $600 million. It is commonly used by businesses to trade excess inventory. BPS charges 6.5 per cent on each transaction.Its other business is bucqi, which it acquired in 2014. BPS describes bucqi as a rewards and loyalty payments platform. It allows consumers to pay for goods and services using an app, with rewards integrated into the payments process.Entertainment Publications has been going for 21 years. It produces restaurant and activity guides that contain special offers. Its network includes 12,000 business, 18,000 not-for-profits and 550,000 paying membersThere were 2.1 million unique sessions on the Entertainment app in June.BPS said it would cross BPS's other offering through the Entertainment Publications app.The company is forecasting that it will more than double revenue in the 2016/17 financial year and increase EBITDA by almost 50 per cent.
