Brief: Austrac secures $45m fine against Tabcorp
The Federal Court of Australia ordered gaming company Tabcorp pay a A$45 million civil penalty for serious non-compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act. "The court found that Tabcorp had contravened the AML/CTF Act on 108 occasions over a period of more than five years," Paul Jevtovic, AUSTRAC chief executive said. "In our view, Tabcorp had a corporate culture indifferent to meaningful AML/CTF compliance and risk mitigation until we intervened." With legal costs factored in, these proceedings are estimated to set Tabcorp back by $90 million.
