Brief: RBNZ capital review on track
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has released results of independent reviews of its proposed bank capital upgrade and seems determined to push ahead. Deputy Governor Geoff Bascand said all the reviews "acknowledged the quality of analysis underpinning our proposals, the transparency of our process, and the care we have taken to consider the points raised by submitters during the consultation process to date". He said the final decisions would be published in the first week of December and apply from April next year, "with a transition period of a number of years before banks would need to meet the new requirements".
