Briefs: IMF Bentham appoints CFO, Esanda still dogged by dodgy brokers, CommInsure review panel app
Litigation funder IMF Bentham has appointed Julia Yetsenga as its chief financial officer. Yetsenga was appointed interim CFO last November, after joining IMF Bentham's finance team in March last year. Finance company Esanda (once classed as an ANZ subsidiary, now being transferred to Macquarie Bank) continues to be dragged down by dodgy brokers from Get Approved Finance in Perth. After three other brokers from this firm were banned for terms ranging from life to 8 years, yesterday ASIC announced a permanent ban for broker Julie Maree Vanzyl. ASIC said its investigations into Get Approved and Esanda were "ongoing" - despite Esanda already agreeing to pay A$1.38 million compensation to clients misled by Get Approved. CommInsure has appointed three independent members to its newly established Claims Review Panel, which it said is "to provide an additional layer of assurance for complex claim assessment and decision-making processes". The three panellists are: Justin Malbon, a consumer representative on the Investments, Life Insurance & Superannuation panel for the Financial Ombudsman Service; Dr Stan Goldstein, who has over 30 years' experience in health services management, including as head of clinical advisory at Bupa Australia; and financial services lawyer Chris McRae.
