Briefs: AFCA appoints comms manager, Kiwi in Credit Suisse scandal, Makhlouf bound for Ireland
The Australian Financial Complaints Authority has appointed Kathy Bowlen as its executive manager for communications and stakeholder relations. Bowlen had a 20-year career as a journalist at the ABC before running communications at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and then Melbourne's St Vincent's Hospital. One early project for Bowlen is a nationwide roadshow. New Zealand-born banker Andrew Pearse, a former Credit Suisse manager, is among three employees of the bank accused of defrauding investors, reports Stuff. Pearse was arrested in London and is currently fighting extradition to the US where he faces charges over allegations he transferred corrupt loans from Credit Suisse to Mozambique officials in exchange for around US$200 million in bribes and kickbacks. Gabriel Makhlouf, New Zealand Treasury Secretary, has been appointed to the top job at Ireland's central bank. Makhlouf will be the first non-Irish national to serve as governor. He has been in charge at Treasury since 2011 after being recruited from the British civil service.
