Briefs: ANZ appoints chief economist, Velocity changes payment charges, La Trobe in MyState's sights
ANZ has appointed Richard Yetsenga as its chief economist. Yetsenga joined ANZ in 2011 and has been acting chief economist since March this year. He has held senior economic research roles at HSBC, Deutsche Bank and the Australian Government. Velocity Frequent Flyer will drop its booking and service fees from September 1, when the new card payment surcharge rules take effect. The current fees will be replaced by a new card payment fee, which is yet to be disclosed. Qantas announced changes to its surcharge rates last month. MyState is considering acquiring La Trobe Financial, according to speculation in the Australian Financial Review. The Tasmanian financial services group has a history of growth by acquisition and is reported to be on the lookout for another target.
