Briefs: Aussie banks in the Panama Papers, Wheeler to head BIS consultative body, Suncorp CIO resign
Australian banks are mentioned thousands of times in the Panama Papers, according to the Australian Financial Review. The papers are a huge leak of 11 million documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, revealing how the rich and powerful hide their wealth. ANZ is the most prominent of the big Australian banks in the papers, appearing more than 7000 times. Reserve Bank of New Zealand governor Graeme Wheeler has been appointed chair of the Asian Consultative Council of the Bank for International Settlements. The appointment is for two years. Wheeler succeeds Amando Tetangco, governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Suncorp chief information officer Matt Pancino has resigned after six years at the company. Pancino was responsible for delivering the company's simplification program, which has been a big part of its strategy in recent years. Suncorp chief transformation officer Clayton Herbert will be acting CIO. Mortgage aggregator AFG has appointed two new non-executive directors - Melanie Kiely and Jane Muirsmith. Kiely has 25 years of experience in healthcare, financial services and consulting in Australia, Europe and South Africa. Muirsmith is a digital and market executive with experience in a range of companies.
