Briefs: CBA class action likely, charges over skimming, new Suncorp CFO
Law firm Slater & Gordon said yesterday that 120 people had registered to join a class action against Bankwest and its parent Commonwealth Bank. Commonwealth Bank has attracted a lot of criticism over a review of Bankwest's commercial loan book, following its takeover of the bank in 2008. CBA's treatment of Bankwest's small business customers was the subject of an ABC Four Corners report on Monday. Slate & Gordon's statement said: "We are looking at whether some of those people with Bankwest loans were hard done-by when Bankwest re-valued their securities and called up their loans." Police in New Zealand have charged three men over an apparent skimming episode that affected scores of BNZ and Westpac customers over the long weekend. Police have also arrested a fourth man who was yet to be charged as of last night. Suncorp Bank says it has promoted Greg Bryant to be its chief financial officer. Bryant was previously executive manager for financial forecasting and capital management. He replaces Anthony Rose, who has left Suncorp to join the Bank of Queensland.
