Briefs: Government FSI response tipped for this week, Pepper in the race for Esanda
The Treasurer's much anticipated response to the Financial System Inquiry report, which was delivered in December, could come this week, according to the Australian Financial Review. Cabinet is meeting tonight and may sign off on the formal response. Government and regulators have already responded to some of the report's findings but most of its 44 recommendations have yet to be addressed. Pepper Group has entered the auction for ANZ's finance business, Esanda Dealer Finance, according to speculation in the AFR Street Talk column. The other bidders are understood to be Macquarie's Group's corporate and asset finance division and HNA Group of China. Esanda is expected to bring about A$1.5 billion for ANZ.
