Briefs: Hayne considers charges and Macquarie hikes
Kenneth Hayne has discussed criminal prosecutions of AMP, Commonwealth Bank and NAB - cited for presumed dishonesty offences in the secret coda to the final report of the banking royal commission, The Australian reported at the weekend. While easily guessed at, the newspaper said the three institutions are among at least five that Kenneth Hayne said he suspected may have committed the offence of engaging in dishonest conduct in relation to a financial product or financial service. Macquarie Bank said it will lift owner-occupier variable home loan rates by 0.06 per cent for customers paying principal and interest, while interest only rates will go up by 0.16 per cent, Rate City reports. All of Macquarie Bank's investment variable rates are rising by 0.16 per cent. The variable rate rises will be effective from 11 February for new customers and 22 February for existing customers.
