Briefs: Mediation a must, BNZ outage
New Zealand's Farm Debt Mediation Bill, which started its life as a New Zealand First Member's bill in 1999, has passed its final reading. It means secured creditors - ie mostly banks - who lend money to farmers will be required to offer mediation to farmers if they default on payments, before taking enforcement action. An unknown issue caused an outage of BNZ's online banking channels yesterday. From around 1pm until just after 4pm, many BNZ customers could not access their online banking. For others, it was running slowly. The problem affected both App-based and PC online banking, said BNZ spokesman Sam Durbin.
