Briefs: SA bank levy polls poorly, Flexigroup finalises funding facility
An opinion poll by Galaxy Research for The Advertiser found 55 per cent of respondents in South Australia oppose the Labor government's planned levy on select bank liabilities (an echo of the new federal tax). That compares with 28 per cent of people in favour of the tax, and 17 per cent who were uncommitted. The Australian Bankers Association, meanwhile, is among business groups to commit to advertising campaigns attacking the tax. FlexiGroup said it had finalised a new A$550 million, three-year funding facility "with a major US bank with extensive global operations." It said the facility would fund both the existing portfolio of FlexiGroup's Australian cards business as well as provide for the continued growth in the business. It said "the facility will replace existing funding facilities for the Australian cards portfolio ... on significantly improved terms ... as well as allowing for lower capital support levels."
