Briefs: Savings ratio down, BOE governor calls for RBS break-up
The household saving ratio dipped to 10.1 per cent on seasonally adjusted terms in the December 2012 quarter from 10.3 per cent in September 2012 and a recent high of 11.1 per cent. The Australian Bureau of Statistics said the trend estimate for household saving was 10.2 per cent in the quarter. The governor of the Bank of England has called on the UK Government to break up Royal Bank of Scotland. According to the Financial Times, King told the Commission on Banking Standards that a break-up was the best way for the Government to recover its investment in the bank. The Government ended up with 82 per cent of RBS after bailing it out during the financial crisis.
