Callinan recycled for CBA review

14 July 2014 4:10PM
Ian Callinan, a retired Justice of the High Court of Australia, will chair the Commonwealth Bank review panel set up to hear appeals in connection with the bank's financial advice misdemeanours. CBA said in a statement that Callinan's "initial priority is to advise the CEO, Ian Narev, with respect to key design elements of the program to ensure it fulfils its primary objective of supporting affected customers and guaranteeing an independent review of their cases. "Callinan will also have input on appointments of other senior experts to the review panel," the bank said.Callinan will then chair the panel "as it considers any unresolved customer cases through the duration of the program," CBA said. The retired judge took a similar role in helping CBA sift through the mess from its entanglement, mainly as a lender rather than an adviser, in the Storm Financial flap several years ago.
