CCR coverage growing
Comprehensive credit reporting has increased the number of Australians with a credit profile by 930,000, credit reporting agency Veda estimates.Under the old credit reporting system, credit providers reported negative data, such as defaults or bankruptcies. Under the new system they can report a wider range of data, such as repayment history and available credit limits, and this widens coverage to a bigger group. In an update on the progress of CCR, which started in March 2014, Veda said the average score of credit applicants with comprehensive data was higher than the average for applicants without comprehensive data."CCR means more accurate and up-to-date information is available," Veda said.Veda said credit providers were loading comprehensive data on 5.4 million consumers. It estimates that 15 million Australians are "credit active".However, CCR is not all good news for consumers. CCR data being loaded into the Veda bureau database shows that 2.8 per cent of consumers are at least one payment in arrears on an account at any given time and a total of 16 per cent have been behind with payments over the past 24 months. And 12.7 per cent of "credit active individuals" on the entire bureau have an "adverse" listing.
