Citi aims to boost mobile take-up
Partnerships are needed to build global capability, Julian Potter, head of Citi's consumer bank in Australia, said yesterday.Nodding in the usual direction, he said "innovative digital services [are] being introduced by some notable non-bank companies [and] disrupting our industry and gaining customer support."But Citi may be enough of an innovator."Our customer use of mobile banking is continuing to increase at a faster rate than any of our other channels," Potter said, "while almost 60 per cent of new product applications are received online."Citi is attempting a global platforms investment in a quest for leadership."We can't leverage our global scale with different technology platforms in different countries," Potter said.Pragmatic investment priorities mean Citi "won't always be able to respond to every innovation" in a local market, he admitted."Despite the significant take up of digital it would be wrong to think global banking and payments have reached anywhere near their digital peak," Potter said.
