COBA reboots mini bank merits
Mutual ADIs have rallied resources for a campaign centred on social media that encourages "Australians to check out the banking alternatives available to them, including Australia's mutual banks, credit unions and building societies."Coordinated by the Customer Owned Banking Association, the new campaign to "check out banking competition" was launched yesterday. The mutuals' advertising campaign begins on Sunday on SKY News, radio and digital, with Twitter and Facebook featuring in the COBA ad spend, Mark Degotardi, chief executive of COBA, said.As reported in Banking Day last year, a small number of COBA members used their 2016 annual reports to air their unease and even dissent over the sector's difficulty in agreeing on a pooled marketing spend.Daniel McDougall, media manager for COBA clarified in an email that "this is something different - it's not related. We have done these business as usual advocacy campaigns in the past, for example our recent '3 Steps to Banking that's Better for All' campaign. "We think now is a really good opportunity to talk about banking competition."
