Days delay in 'banknote' trial
Legal arguments on Monday and yesterday (Wednesday 16 May) have delayed the beginning of a criminal trial of a former Securency sales executive.Clifford John Gerathy, of Maroubra, faces one charge of false accounting, dating back to 2011. "There will be no jury this week," Justice Kevin Bell told the Victorian Supreme Court yesterday. Kevin Armstrong, for the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and Tony Thomas, for Gerathy, have this week debated points of law with Justice Bell for a trial originally scheduled to kick off on Monday this week. Securency International was a company half-owned by the Reserve Bank of Australia at the time of the alleged offence. The business produced a polymer film used in the production of modern banknotes in Australia and abroad. CCL Industries, a Canadian packaging conglomerate is the present owner of this business.
