Demand for residential property to remain strong
Demand for residential property remains high, despite strong dwelling price growth over the past year. A new QBE Australia survey of housing and mortgage market sentiment shows the number of people looking to buy has increased.QBE found that 39 per cent of Australian adults were looking to buy residential property in the next five years, compared with 35 per cent in last year's survey.Higher dwelling prices have had some impact on sentiment; 59 per cent think that residential property is overvalued and the number of people who think the best time to buy is in the next 12 months has dropped - down from 42 per cent last year to 36 per cent in the latest survey.A common reason for delaying a property purchase was the belief that prices would fall.
