Deposit-takers sit on their hands
Approved deposit-taking institutions' response so far to last week's 25 basis point increase in the official cash rate won't please savers. Only a handful of institutions have made any response so far, and only two of these, the Commonwealth Bank and Macquarie, have passed on the 25 basis point increase. Commonwealth increased the rate on NetBank Saver from six to 6.25 per cent. Macquarie moved the rate on its Cash Management Account from 4.5 to 4.75 per cent. Police Department Employees Credit Union added only 20 basis points to rates on its Online Super Saver Account and Market Linked Account. But it did put its First Home Saver account rate up 50 basis points. Intech Credit Union increased its 12-month term deposit rate by 10 basis points and Greater Building Society increased its four-month term deposit rate by 10 points.
