Few syndicated loans in first quarter
In one measure of the subdued demand in the debt capital market, banks finalised only US$5 billion in syndicated loans in Australia and New Zealand during the March 2009 quarter, down from US$21 billion in the corresponding quarter in 2008.Thomson Reuters monitored eight syndicated loans (five in Australia and three in New Zealand) over the quarter, down from 38 year a year ago.Comparisons may not be strictly valid since Thomson changed the criteria. In 2009 league tables are based on fully syndicated loan volume. Previously, league tables were based on financial close or underwritten loan volume.
