Finance jobs growth steady

Employment in the financial services sector is projected to grow at a steady, moderate, pace over the five years to 2017, analysis by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations suggests.

In its "Australian Jobs 2013" report, DEEWR said that employment in financial and insurance services increased by 16,600, or four per cent, to 421,400 over the five years to November 2012. This represents a little less than four per cent of all jobs in Australia.

It said "a similar number of new jobs are projected to be created over the five years to November 2017." DEEWR expects finance jobs to be one of the fastest growing sectors in the economy.

Employment in the sector is highly concentrated in state capital cities, particularly in Sydney and Melbourne.
