Foreign news: Banks sue fast food chain over lax payment security
A group of US financial institutions has launched a class action against fast food chain Wendy's for failing to protect its computer system from breaches, Finextra reports. Hackers broke into the Wendy's system and stole card payment date between October last year and March. A Pittsburgh credit union, First Choice Federal, has filed a claim on behalf of a group of financial institutions, claiming that Wendy's "refused to take steps to adequately protect its computer systems from intrusion." The claim said Wendy's used outdated systems and had failed to meet updated payment industry standards requiring that its payment terminal be able to read EMV chips.
