Foreign news: Barclays' digital eagles take flight, HSBC approved to sell credit cards in China
Barclays will support UK start-ups through a number of "eagle labs" across the country, Finextra reports. The bank has run pilots in Bournemouth and Cambridge and said it would open as many as 20 of the centres, which would be open to local entrepreneurs. The centres will be staffed by specially trained staff called "digital eagles". HSBC has received approval from Chinese regulators to launch a credit card business in China, Bloomberg reports. HSBC recently terminated its card venture with Bank of Communications. Citigroup and Bank of East Asia are the only other foreign credit-card issuers on the mainland.
