Foreign news: Barclays trials contactless ATM withdrawals, Hengfeng Bank in trouble
UK bank Barclays is testing new ATMs that allow customers to make withdrawals using their smartphones, the BBC reports. The ATMs will take instructions from smartphones via a contactless NFC transmission. The bank said contactless withdrawals were more secure because there was no risk of card skimming. The trial is limited to Android mobile phones; Apple does not allow third party access to its NFC chips. Inquiries by China's banking regulator into opaque capital flows have rattled Shandong-based Hengfeng Bank, also known as Evergrowing Bank. Reports are emerging that Hengfeng, one of the country's 12 national commercial banks, may have violated banking regulations or corporate laws. This is according to a review of company documents by online news service Caixin, along with interviews with a former president of the bank and others close to the organisation.
