Foreign news: Commoditising of banking through Amazon and JP Morgan tie-up
Analysts are warning of a longer-term "... commoditising effect on the banking industry" as talks between Amazon and JP Morgan Chase over a potential partnership continue, reports the FT. It is unclear whether such a tie-up would give customers the ability to write cheques, directly pay bills, or access the bank's network of ATMs. Also unclear is how the regulator, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, will respond. The effectiveness of Dodd-Frank rules to limit interchange fees to retailers is also untested.
