Foreign News: Cyber gang linked to North Korea
Russian anti-fraud solutions vendor Group-IB overnight said it had established that Lazarus, a cyber gang that attempted to steal US$1 billion from the Central Bank of Bangladesh and compromised a number of Polish banks, was "connected to North Korea." In 2016, the Lazarus group attempted to steal about US$950 million from the Central Bank of Bangladesh via SWIFT, a heist that in the end yielded only US$81 million. The analysts said that "despite the complex three-layer architecture, encrypted channels, VPN services, and other advanced techniques the researchers managed to identify that the group was operating from Pothonggang district, North Korea, where National Defense Commission is located."
