Foreign news: Fintech sidesteps EU's open banking barriers
Open banking platform provider Token.io has claimed first mover bragging rights, stating that it was the first licensed payment initiation service provider to conduct an end-to-end payment through a public bank API. A payment of £4.99 was made in the UK on 1 June, using Santander's API payment initiation endpoints and was executed via the Token network. "The transaction signals the start of the age of open banking in Europe and will enable millions of customers to begin benefiting from simple, secure and PSD2 compliant payments," Token stated via media release. Its platform enables banks, merchants and other third-party providers to connect to any bank in the EU for payments and account information requests.
