Foreign news: Goldman Sachs hires former EU president, UK regulator to review crowdfunding
Former president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, has joined Goldman Sachs as an adviser, CNBC reports. Barroso served as EU president from 2004 to 2014. He was Prime Minister of Portugal from 2002 to 2004. He has been hired to help the investment bank deal with the Brexit fallout, according to the report. The UK Financial Conduct Authority has announced a review of the crowdfunding market, the Financial Times reports. The FCA review, which will be its second look at the sector in two years, follows calls for tougher regulation of alternative finance providers. It will focus on whether investors in crowdfunding platforms understand the risks they are taking.
