Foreign news: Monte dei Paschi at risk of a bail-in
Italian bank Monte dei Paschi is struggling to complete a €5 billion recapitalisation and €30 billion bad loan sale, and may have to be "bailed-in", the Financial Times reports. The bank was the worst performer in a recent stress test conducted by the European Central Bank. A bail-in occurs when a bank's creditors (debt security holders and depositors) must bear some of the bank's bad debt burden by having their securities converted to equity or having them written off.
